A Midsommar Dream and a Turkish Feast

Hejsan! It feels like SO much happened this week. I will make bullet points of everything I can remember. - we taught a lesson on Monday that went till 11 pm. Oopsies. But worth it! - ate a Turkish feast featuring a random girl Syster Prendy met on the tunnelbana. It was truly an experience. Imagine an entire table of food, but the only thing you recognize is a pasta salad in the corner.  - went to visit a member, and the 8-year-old daughter forced us to do races and kept sticking a soccer ball up our shirts because it was ~part of the challenge~ - had Midsommar on Friday, and danced like a frog around the may pole. I held a lot of sweaty strangers' hands, and it was very funny and wholesome.  - baked a cake with our ward mission leader after our Midsommar celebration. - finally met with and gave a Book of Mormon to our friend who works at the tunnelbana station we live close to! We used to wave and say hi every day--and then one day he asked us about what we're doing h...

Sports and Music

Tjena!  Summer has officially come here in Sweden, and we've got the fan absolutely BLASTING every night. Sweden is the worst for not believing in air conditioning.  This week we had a lot of events, including: - our Monday night språk café  - basketball in the church on Wednesday - Football in the church on Thursday evening  - Our last zone conference with President and Syster Davis before they go home!  - The Musikafton on Sunday evening, which is a stake event that we had to plan We also met with David, who got baptized about two months ago, for the last time before he goes back to Peru! He has such a strong testimony, and we're excited for him to be able to go to the temple there!  On Friday, we hopped on the tunnelbana to talk to people, and I got distracted talking to a man that I met about the meaning of life. We stayed on the train until we were quite a bit outside of our area, and then realized after he got off the train that it was the last...

Highs and Lows

Hej everyone! This past week was SO long. Very long. The longest week of my mission, probably.  Early in the week it was Sweden's national day, which we celebrated by going to our ward picnic next to a castle in Tyresö! It was beautiful. When we entered the grounds of the area, it felt like a dream.  It was a great opportunity to meet and get to know our members better, and we're going to start teaching the daughter of one of our members!  Later in the week we did a lot of planning and preparation for Wanda's* baptism, which was supposed to happen last Friday evening. She ended up calling it off the day before, because a lot was happening at work and she felt too stressed. It was a very sad couple of days.  That was the second time I've had a baptism get canceled right before it was supposed to happen. And it breaks your heart.  But she still wants to get baptized in the future, and however much time she needs is worth it for the peace and blessings that come wi...

Engaged to a 45 year old

Tjena!  This week I was sort of proposed to by a middle aged African guy!  Syster Prendy tried to explain that we're missionaries and we can't currently get married, and he kept saying that a missionary is the BEST person to marry --because they're so dedicated to God! Can't argue with that logic.  Anywho, we also had some cool lessons, and had two new friends come to church! Pretty sweet. It was fast and testimony meeting, and I think it's always a good experience for people to see that ANYONE is qualified to go up and talk about their testimony of Christ.  We had another Syster with us for about two days, due to some weird transfer plans, so she got to experience a little taste of Gubbängen with us! We met with some awesome friends, and one of them even decided to fast with us this past Sunday.  Wendy will be baptized this Friday, and we are super excited! We taught her about the Word of Wisdom last week, and she said she drinks a lot of coffee, but had...

Roses and Singing

Hejsan!  Another amazing week. Some things: - We met with a woman who has been really hard to meet with, and asked her if she had any questions for us. Her only question was "How do I become a member of your church?"  - Had a free concert with the infamous Herrey Brothers who won Eurovision a while back.  - Helped a young couple move, and then ate the best burger of my life afterwards.  - Went to a baptism, and had our friend Wanda* come along! She loved it, and is very excited for her baptism next week. *Side note: The woman who got baptized almost hit her head on the railing on the way into the water--and everyone gasped. And she's incredibly light-hearted and funny about the whole thing. She keeps cracking jokes about it.  - It was mors dag yesterday here in Sweden, and so all of the women got roses in church and there was tårta afterwards. #score  We got transfer news, and both me and Syster Prendergast will be staying here in Gubbängen--which we...

The Rain and the Miracles

Hej alla!  What a week. Holy cow.  There was a point in the week where we were soaking wet, and I had to pee SO bad, and so we were told that there was a bathroom at the top of like 8 flights of stairs--and so we went all the way up, only to find no bathroom. So we were just very wet and very uncomfortable. For quite a long time. But hey, that's show biz.  Otherwise, we had some of the most awesome lessons of my whole mission this week.  -We taught a guy who we met in the mall about two weeks ago, and he had awesome questions about the Plan of Salvation. He told us at the end that he could see how merciful God truly is.  -We taught a man that Syster Prendergast met on Facebook, and he said that he wants to rekindle the faith he had as a kid. I very much admire the pure desire he has to come back to God. -We taught a woman named Wanda*, and she is amazing. She has had a very hard life, and wants to restart and connect with Jesus Christ. And she wants to be...

Finding Week

Hey everyone!  This week we did a lot of finding. Which essentially means that we went out on the streets, and talked to many, many people. Good and interesting! We talked to: - an old woman who said that she's always wondered what the meaning of life is, and has never gotten a good answer. We had good news! - A young girl who excitedly asked us what we were doing, and told us that she believes in Christ!  - An orthodox Christian who told us that we are going to hell for what we believe. Oof.  - A man who said he's never grown up in religion, but thinks its interesting to talk about. - A man from Latvia who said he's been to heaven and there's no God there. Very confusing.  - A cute girl on the tunnelbana who was very excited to take a Book of Mormon! She said she had just started going to church a couple weeks ago. And I also met a lot of people who said that knowing there is a God would change absolutely nothing for them in their lives. Which really surprise...
