Här i Sverige

 Hej hej!

Wow. What a week. New people, new places, new language, new foods.

Some new people:
- New trainer! Her name is Syster Taylor, and she's awesome. She's from Idaho, she's been in Sweden for about 6 months, and this past week, we both lived off of her groceries...which pretty much consisted of yogurt, apples, tortillas, and stale chips. Nice!
- New Friend! He came with us to institute last Thursday, and really liked it. We also gave him a tour of the church building!
-*Mason! He's super great, he's from Africa, and he came to church with us on Sunday! He's been working on quitting smoking, and is already down to 5 a day--which is WAY less than what he was doing a couple weeks ago. It's amazing what people have the strength to do when they rely on the Lord.
- New ward! All of the ward members that I met yesterday at church were SO nice. They also talked REALLY fast. I did my best to understand.
-New ward mission leader! His name is Nicho, and he got back from his mission to Canada about 3 years ago. He took us to a couple fun places today for p-day, and made me drink from the Ocean. I guess he makes all of the new missionaries do it, haha.

New Places:
-Lund! This is the city where I've been assigned to serve. It's in the very southernmost part of Sweden, where they speak "Skonish"--which is almost a mix of Swedish and Danish. Apparently it's the type of Swedish that is hardest to understand for missionaries. Nice!

New Language:
-Swedish.

New foods:
- Knäckebröd: It's bread that's almost like a cracker ? They eat it with cheese slices on top, along with cucumber and peppers.
- Saft: it's like juice concentrate that you buy, and then really water down so that it tastes like flavored water.
- Fika: It's like the Swedish version of tea time. It's time set aside each day to eat some type of dessert/pastry, and drink tea or saft or whatever. It's pretty sweet. It's a great excuse to eat dessert, and say that you're just embracing the culture here in Sweden. A lot of our teaching appointments are to meet for fika!
-Pickled fish. I ate some for breakfast on my first day here, and I'm ashamed to say that it tasted pretty good. No further questions.

This week has been challenging, no doubt, but I've seen the Lord strengthen me as I do my best to become an instrument in his hands.
Ether 12:27 tells us that:
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
Heavenly Father is acutely aware of our struggles, and promises to strengthen us if we turn to him for help. I've seen this continually as I strive to learn the language here.

Vi ses!

Godis! This week, for whatever reason, you can buy a golden bucket of candy for MUCH cheaper than normal. So we did. #stockedup #generalconferencefeast

VASA Museum. President Davis took us there immediately after we arrived in Stockholm.

A cute little town Nicho took us to today. I don't remember what it's called. Tragic.

End of an Era

Hej!  This past week has been great. As always, we've seen miracles. And weird things, too! But I'm just absolutely filled with gratitude to be a servant of the Lord. Especially this past week, for some reason. This week we: -had an awesome lesson with a young Father, who's just trying to mend his relationship with God. Very pure.  - taught our friend *Anna and her 18 year-old son about prayer.  - made breakfast and watched general conference with our members and our friends on Sunday morning. #swedishvåfflor  - gave out a Book of Mormon in Persian to a sweet old lady who tried to speak Persian to us for like 10 minutes.  - got to have a great lesson with our friend *Marianne, and she had a lot of great questions about conference.  - got to eat some homemade rulltårta with one of our friends and his family. Very cute.  - had in-person distriktsråd and the Elders made us lunch. It was like a finish version of baked macaroni and cheese.  - fi...

High highs and low lows

Hejsan!  Vilken vecka asså!  It feels like SO many things happened. For better or for worse, haha!  A Monday night miracle:  We went out to talk to people at 7 pm--when it's cold and dark--and ran into one of the most prepared people I've ever met on my mission. His name is *Mitch, and we caught him right after he left the gym.  We asked him what gives him hope, and he didn't know. So he returned the question, and Syster Rollins explained that our hope comes from our faith in God and Jesus Christ.  He immediately lit up, and we told him about why we were in Sweden and some details about our church. He was very interested, and we met with him on Saturday!  The best lesson ever: We gave him a tour around the church, which he loved, and then taught him about the Restoration. He had awesome questions! By the end of the lesson, he said that: 1) God gives us the gift of discernment so that we can know what comes from Jesus Christ, and what doesn't. An...

Finding Week

Hey everyone!  This week we did a lot of finding. Which essentially means that we went out on the streets, and talked to many, many people. Good and interesting! We talked to: - an old woman who said that she's always wondered what the meaning of life is, and has never gotten a good answer. We had good news! - A young girl who excitedly asked us what we were doing, and told us that she believes in Christ!  - An orthodox Christian who told us that we are going to hell for what we believe. Oof.  - A man who said he's never grown up in religion, but thinks its interesting to talk about. - A man from Latvia who said he's been to heaven and there's no God there. Very confusing.  - A cute girl on the tunnelbana who was very excited to take a Book of Mormon! She said she had just started going to church a couple weeks ago. And I also met a lot of people who said that knowing there is a God would change absolutely nothing for them in their lives. Which really surprise...
