First Week in WEEJO

 Hejsan!


Just finished my first week in the field. It was long. But it was good. 

My trainer's name is Sister Hendrix. She's from Pennsylvania, and she's pretty cool!

We were originally in a trio with another wonderful sister named Sister Brough, but she was having some breathing problems--which didn't suit our biking area very well. She got transferred out of West Jordan (#WEEJO) (our area) last Friday. It's sad for us, but she needs to be in a car area. 

Some things I should probably note:
- I don't know the first vision in English very well (I know it in Swedish) and when we went on exchanges last week, the Sister Training Leader (Sister Hernaez) threw me under the bus during a member appointment and had me recite it in front of them. I totally butchered it. HAHA. 
- We live RIGHT NEXT to a mink farm that smells TERRIBLE. When we're biking back from appointments, and I begin to inhale that minky scent, I know we're almost home. 
- It's hard to get 7 year-olds excited about reading the Book of Mormon (children's edition) unless you promise them candy. 
- I've taught the plan of salvation via a cute little board game made by Sister Hendrix. 
- I met my first heroin addict 
- I've officially knocked on a door, stated that I'm a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had the door quickly shut. I'm a REAL missionary now. That's the dream.
- Me and sister Hendrix cover two stakes, and 12 wards. That's a lot of wards. 
- Sister Hendrix is allergic to EVERTHING haha. I feel so bad for her. That's a hard-knock life. 

So many people here have met with the missionaries that our OPENER is "hello! We are missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Have you met with missionaries before?"
And the answer, thus far, is always "yes." 

I'm doing my best to keep up with my Swedish, and I'm hoping that my visa comes soon. But so far, it's a party here in South Salt Lake. 

This past Sunday, I was assigned to give a talk on how we can feel God's love in our lives, and it was an awesome thing to stop and reflect on. One major way we can feel God's love more fully in our lives is to do things that invite the spirit. The spirit is the means by which our Heavenly Father communicates with us. So DO THOSE SIMPLE THINGS EVERYDAY! Pray often, repent daily, and read your scriptures! I promise that as you do so, you will be able to recognize God's hand in your life more fully.

    It's great to see that your indomitable, joyful spirit is transferrable to areas outside the Missionary Training Center! How the Lord must count on you and love you, as do I!

End of an Era

  Hej!  This past week has been great. As always, we've seen miracles. And weird things, too! But I'm just absolutely filled with gratitude to be a servant of the Lord. Especially this past week, for some reason. This week we: -had an awesome lesson with a young Father, who's just trying to mend his relationship with God. Very pure.  - taught our friend *Anna and her 18 year-old son about prayer.  - made breakfast and watched general conference with our members and our friends on Sunday morning. #swedishvåfflor  - gave out a Book of Mormon in Persian to a sweet old lady who tried to speak Persian to us for like 10 minutes.  - got to have a great lesson with our friend *Marianne, and she had a lot of great questions about conference.  - got to eat some homemade rulltårta with one of our friends and his family. The blessed jalapeño

 Tjena! This week was great!  We got TWO MEMBER referrals and it turns out one of them met with the missionaries over twenty years ago and loves our church!! She said that the members of our church "are love." Super cute.  We also: - went to a birthday party for a less active member and they served us papusas!! That was my first papusa experience. #shoutouttobeth - played innebandy at the church with some cool people - had a lesson about the nature of God with our friend *Mont. It was awesome. Everyone go read Alma 42. - accidentally cried in a Willy's grocery store  - met a really nice old Swedish guy on the street, and answered his questions about us and our church for about 30 minutes. And his wife was adorable, too.  - received a lasagna  - spoke in sacrament meeting on Sunday! #nice On Sunday, I spoke about miracles. Our God is a God of miracles! A Busy Sunday

  Hello everyone! We're going to hop straight in.  This week we: -Gave out more Books of Mormon on the street and by knocking doors. Always fun.  - Finally met with a really cute family that had been difficult to meet with! - Met with one of Syster Kearns' distant relatives who lives right outside of Lund! They got in contact with one another through ancestry and were able to meet and talk Swedish together! It was actually really cool. Syster Kearns got to explain that it was because of our religion that their common ancestors fled to the US, and is also now the reason why she's back here in Sweden. #fullcircle - Got kicked out of a Svenska Kyrka by a svenska kyrka priest who asked us to take off our name tags. Classy.  - Met a man who had no idea that his wife of 35 years is a member of our church and listened to him explain his deep, complicated, philosophical ideas.  - Got rejected many times on the street. -Had FIVE PEOPLE come to church yesterday!
